Assist. Prof. Dr. Vanja Smokvina appointed an arbitrator at the CAS
We are proud of another confirmation of the professional expertise of our faculty members, this time from Switzerland! International Council of Arbitration in Sport (ICAS) confirmed the appointment of Assistant Professor Dr. Vanja Smokvina as an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the world highest legal instance where the sports disputes are resolved, seated in Laussanne, Switzerland. He has been appointed to both of their lists of arbitrators. On the General list (for all sports) Vanja Smokvina is one of the three arbitrators from Croatia (along with Prof. Dr. Siniša Petrović and Petra Pocrnić Perica), while he is the only arbitrator from Croatia on the Special list (for football).
International Conference on Sport Diplomacy held in Zagreb, June 12th 2019
On June 12th 2019 in Zagreb our Faculty co-organised an international conference titled „Sport Diplomacy – Examples of Good Practice“ with the Central State Office for Sports of the Republic of Croatia and with the support of the Croatian Football Federation. The conference was organised as the first event within the Erasmus + project Promoting a Strategic Approach to EU Sport Diplomacy, in which the Faculty is one of the partners.
4th Rijeka EU Sports Law Day held at our Faculty, June 10th 2019
On June 12th 2019 our Faculty hosted the international conference called “The Regulation of Football Agents” which was organised as part of the Erasmus + project “Promoting and supporting good governance in the European football agents industry”. After the first part of the introduction in which Professor Richard Parrish (Edge Hill University, UK) has given an overview of the Project’s outcomes, Mr. Jurica Vranješ, former Croatian national football team player and currently agent, has given his view on the current state of facts in the industry of players’ agents. The first part of the day than was concluded with a round table on “Arbitration” in which have taken part Professor Jacopo Tognon (University of Padova, CAS), Professor Fabio Iudica (University of Milano, CAS), Ms. Petra Pocrnić-Perica (NOC of Croatia, CAS), Mr. Georgios Elmalis (legal council before BAT) and Mr. Tomislav Kasalo (member of the FIFA DRC). The round table was moderated by Dr. Andrea Cattaneo (Edge Hill University, UK).

The first stage of the PSEFS project completed with a series of events at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka
On 30 and 31 May 2019, Faculty of Law in Rijeka was a venue of the intense discussion on European family and succession law, private international law, as well as sociological perspectives of contemporary family units. More than 50 speakers from 13 countries, both of academic and professional background, presented results of their research and highlighted the problems with which they are confronted on everyday basis.
Cooperation Agreement with City of Crikvenica
On 28 May 2019 the dean of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka Prof. Dr. Vesna Crnić-Grotić and deputy mayor of the City of Crikvenica Ivona Matošić Gašparović signed the Cooperation Agreement. This is the formal conformation of the long-terms cooperation between the two entities. We beleieve that there will be even more joint initiatives and activities in the future!
