International Seminar on tax procedures held at our Faculty, April 27th 2018

On April 27th 2018 our Faculty hosted the international seminar titled „Tax procedures: a constructive approach to address selected critical issues“, organized in co-operation with the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), Amsterdam. The Seminar gave the general reporter for European Association of Tax Law Professors (EATLP) Congress 2019, Prof. Dr. Pasquale Pistone, an opportunity to share with the academic community and interested stakeholders the preliminary findings of the research conducted within the framework of the newly formed EATLP working group on tax procedures. Furthermore, the aim of the Seminar was to bring together theoretical and practical perspectives on the fundamental topic of tax procedures. More than 30 participants, representing academic community, judiciary, tax advisors and tax authorities, attended this event.

EU Projects Open Doors Day at the Faculty of Law - 9 May 2018 and at the University of Rijeka – 11 May 2018

The University of Rijeka is taking part in celebrating the European Week (6-13 May 2018) by organising the event of the EU Projects Open Doors Days on Wednesday, 9 May and Friday, 11 May 2018.

The first event organised by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law in collaboration with the University of Rijeka, Centre for EU Projects and is being held at the Faculty of Law on Wednesday, 9 May 2018 at 10:00 Room II.

At the event the introductory note will be given by Mrs. Nataša Jakominić Marot (Centre for EU Projects of the University of Rijeka) and the Centre’s activity will be presented along with the presentation of the EU Projects Open Doors Day that is being held at the University Campus on 11 May 2018, highlighting the good practice of the last edition of the 2017 EU Projects Open Doors Day. In the second part of the event there will be presented the Erasmus + project Promoting and supporting good governance in the European football agents industry by Assist. Prof. Vanja Smokvina in which the Faculty of Law is a coordinator (the leading coordinator is Edge Hill University, UK).

Albanian colleagues visit our Faculty

Prof. Dr. Xhezair Zaganjori, Chief Justice of the Albanian Supreme Court and Professor at the University of Tirana, and Dr. Erjon Hitaj, head of the Department on Law at the University of Vlore in Albania visited the faculty of Law in Rijeka on 26 April 2018. On that occasion, they each held a lecture within the Rijeka lectures on comparative law. They were also received by the representatives of the faculty, Dean Prof. Dr. Vesna Crnić-Grotić, Vice-Dean for Research Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivana Kunda i Erasmus+ coordinator Sandra Winkler. During the conversation, both sides expressed their mutual interest in laying the basis for future cooperation.

Visiting lecture by Professor Pasquale Pistone on the tax integration in the EU

On April 25th 2018 Faculty of Law University of Rijeka had the pleasure to host one of the leading international tax scholars. Professor Pasquale Pistone (IBFD, Amsterdam / WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) / Università degli Studi di Salerno) held lectures to undergraduate students on the influence of EU tax law on Member States’ tax systems. Enlightening perspectives on the future direction of EU tax integration were shared, with special emphasis on the differences between various sources of EU law. Prof. Pistone particularly highlighted the dichotomy between positive integration, which entails legislative activity of the Council of the EU, and negative integration, where the EU Court of Justice plays the central role. A telling warning has been issued that the experiences with integration of direct taxes, such as personal income tax and corporate income tax, has been largely dissatisfactory, in light of the absence of secondary EU legislation. This lecture was an excellent opportunity for both students and members of the faculty to learn more about the EU dimension of national tax systems.

 

Erasmus + Mobility Agreement signed with Galatasaray University in Istanbul (Turkey)

The University of Rijeka signed the Erasmus + Mobility Agreement with the Galatasaray University in Istanbul (Turkey) for the field of ​​law. The agreement was signed for the period 2018 to 2021 and includes student mobility for the purposes of studies and and teaching and non-teaching staff mobilty for teaching or training. Erasmus + Mobility Agreement signed with University of Verona (Italy)

The University of Rijeka signed the Erasmus + Mobility Agreement with the University of  Verona for the field of ​​law. The agreement was signed for the period 2019 to 2021 and includes student mobility for the purposes of studies and teaching staff mobilty for teaching. Erasmus+ Mobility Agreement signed with Umeå University (Sweden)

The University of Rijeka signed the Erasmus + Mobility Agreement with the Umeå University (Sweden) in March for the field of law. The agreement was signed for the period 2018 to 2021 and currently only includes staff mobility for teaching.
