On European Day of Justice students visited Municipal Court in Rijeka

On 25 October 2018, students enrolled in Criminal Law Seminar and Erasmus+ course on Juvenile Criminal Law, accompanied by Assoc Prof. Dr. Dalida Rittossa visited the Municipal Court of Rijeka where the European Day of Justice was celebrated through series of activities within the “Open Door Day”.

In conversation with a Deputy President of the Municipal Court Mirela Popović Brletić, a senior court counsel Gordana Vulić Pavlović and Secretary of the Court Martina Kružić Smokrović, the students had an opportunity to learn more about the Court work, its organisation and functioning. The students discussed different issues related to roles and work of judges in criminal legal cases with Mladenka Paro-Rudić, a Criminal Division judge. Mladen Ivančević provided explanations on boundaries of legal use of force and issues emerging in the course of his daily duties as a judicial police officer. Since 2003, the Council of Europe and the European Union have been celebrating the European Day of Justice and the state parties traditionally join in this endeavour in order to bring the justice system closer to citizens and provide them with better understanding of courts work as well as their rights and tools facilitating access to justice.
